The Trail traverses a series of interconnected single paths, dirt roads, and hiking tracks through the tropical Kivu Belt Region on the shores of Lake Kivu. As it stretches along the scenic shores of Lake Kivu, hikers on the Trail trek by some of Africa’s few remaining tropical rainforests, and vast coffee plantations. Tour use budget lodge with no wifi.

- Nanyuki → Forest Edge Camp (or similar). A gentle walk-in through the forest.
- Forest Edge → Burguret Camp. A tougher day trekking deeper into the wilderness, crossing streams and muddy terrain.
- Burguret Camp → Upper Burguret Camp → Road Head Camp. Ascending out of the forest into the high moorland with stunning views.
- Road Head Camp → Shiptons Camp (4,300m). A high-altitude trek across the Mackinder Valley to acclimatize.
- Summit Day! Pre-dawn ascent to Point Lenana (4,985m) for sunrise, then descend to Old Moses Camp or directly out.
- Exit to Park Gate and transfer back to Nanyuki/Nairobi.
